Do we own things or do they own us? Do we really need everything we think we need?

Have you ever noticed what consumer society does to us?

Unconsciously, we keep planning what we need next and what we need to acquire. But haven't we already got too much? And does all this new stuff really make us happy?

Many of us frequently ask ourselves what true happiness actually means. Successful, always busy, and somehow caught in this cycle – always looking for the next big purchase that is supposed to bring fulfillment.

Last week, I watched the documentary Human by the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation – 3 episodes about people and the notion that happiness has little to do with material things.

As one participant said: “We pay for our things with money, but in reality, we pay with the precious time of our lives that we spend earning this money” – time that we do not get back.

How do we escape this hamster wheel?

🧘‍♀️ Mindfulness: Take the time to reflect on what really matters. Instead of always (even unconsciously) striving for the next big purchase, we should appreciate and enjoy the moment.

❤️ Authenticity: Be honest with yourself and others. Live according to your own values, not the expectations of consumer society.

🌟 Fulfillment: True happiness is found in the relationships we nurture and the moments we share. Material goods fade, but memories and connections remain.

I invite you to reflect on your own definitions of happiness and share them: What truly makes you happy? How can you live a more conscious and fulfilling life? 🥰

For those who want to delve deeper into this topic: I highly recommend the documentary Human by the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation. It offers profound insights into the human pursuit of happiness and impressively shows that true fulfillment has little to do with material things. Watch it and be inspired!
